A Student Spotlight story, broadcast on Vegas PBS, shows how a CCSD middle school play creatively addresses the issue of bullying.

The backstory: Amy Roberge, the drama teacher at Grant Sawyer Middle School, says “The Weight of Your Words” is an adaptation of an anti-bullying play originally written by students in Florida.

  • Roberge says during the first two weeks of the school year her advanced drama class talks about bullying and, after reading the “The Weight of Your Words” script, the students update it so it stays relevant.

Why it matters: “It’s important to show awareness for bullying and what the consequences can be,” says Brooke Rodriguez, an eighth-grader at Sawyer Middle School.

  • “We need to let kids know they’re not alone,” Roberge says.
